George Washnton Carr

Thomas Hargreaves Carr was MD of the Preston and Wyre Railway that linked up with the North Lancs Steam Navigation company that took passengers onwards to Belfast. To get to Ireland in those days youwent from London to Preston and then to Fleetwood where you took the boat to Belfast. The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company (became LMS) took over the Preston & Wyre railway and Thomas H.Carr became the MD. He eventually took over the North Lancs Steam Navigation Company and his son George Washnton Carr married Leonard Humphry’s daughter Amy Constance Humphrys.(known as Guy). George W.Carr dies in 1910 from an unpleasant night time riding accident. The stables where his horse was kept are haunted! In the middle of the night the ghost of his horse can be heard returning without his rider.
George married Amy Constance (K-A Guy) Humphrys, daughter of Captain Leonard Humphrys and Catherine H McNeilage, in 1888. (Amy Constance (K-A Guy) Humphrys was born in 1864.)
